Overview

When you are promoted to manager you assume greater responsibility for your team, work unit and organizational results. Your challenges are more complex and your leadership role is recognized as central to meeting them. Today's public sector managers are expected to help their people meet today's complex and rapidly changing needs. This nine-day in-residence program targets critical management competencies through individual assessments, readings, small group activities, out-of-class experiences and stimulating class discussions. During this seminar you will:

  • Develop a strategic view of key drivers of behavior and decision-making
  • Acquire a fundamental understanding of managing change and resolving conflict
  • Examine a framework for developing other workers
  • View your leadership role through Constitutional values and ethics
  • Explore solutions for difficult performance issues, including discipline and termination

How You Will Benefit

  • Improve your problem-solving, decision-making and conflict resolution skills
  • Lead by example and become a workplace role model
  • Build peer networks across Federal agencies
  • Examine your leadership competencies away from day-to-day responsibilities
  • Learn to develop and deploy your staff

Who Should Attend

Managers recently promoted to second line supervision, current middle managers seeking to update their skills and knowledge and/or managers with large program responsibilities

This is not a basic supervisory skills course but the first level of the management development curriculum.
